AGM & Birthday

Life FM’s 9th Annual General Meeting and 5th Birthday Party was a great night for those attending. We had 34 members, 6 guests, 5 Board members and 15 apologies, with everyone enjoying a fabulous supper catered for by Glutopia Café (next door to Christian Bookworld) in Traralgon.

Glutopia was a great venue because after the celebrations (and the meeting) everyone was invited to check out the new Traralgon studio in the bookshop and members were given 15% discount vouchers for a one night only special shop at Christian Bookworld.

Thanks to those who helped make this a great night and especially to Carissa Rash who organised the decorations

(and the decorators!)

Prayer & Praise

Praise God for His continued blessings

Everyday we see God’s hand in the work that we do – it is such a blessing to be part of this ministry! It’s been so wonderful to have Liam join the team!

New Members

13 new members since last newsletter. Thank you and PRAISE GOD – please pray for more sponsors.

Technical Issues

Pray for those who maintain our equipment and for those working on our studio installation – for those “extra” hours needed.

Volunteers for the Station and the Bookshop

Please pray for God to send those with servant hearts that He would have in these positions. We need to help keep Christian Bookworld running to maintain our presence in the Valley – particularly people who are available to close the shop at 5:30pm. Our studio in the shop is vital to the next step in our growth.
Please also pray for our IT positions to be filled. Keeping our computers in tip top shape is essential to keeping the station running.

Chairo Christian School – Radio Play

Everyone loves Christmas ham and there was plenty of it at station sponsor Chairo Christian School when Deb went to record the Christmas Radio Play Focus On Bethlehem. Don’t miss it – Christmas Eve at 6pm and repeated Christmas Day at 7 and 10pm.

BACK: Keegan Johns (Interviewer); James Bedford (Joseph); Jordan Brough (Herod); Ashe Powell (Mary)

FRONT: Dillan Stock (Shepherd); Aubrey Gaylard (Wise Man); Anne Lewis (Commentator); Maddi Ancilleri (Inn Keeper)

Randell Loves Christmas!

Randell has been very busy at the Traralgon studio preparing hundreds of new Christmas tracks to add to this year’s mix. He and Deb will be having some fun Christmas Day from 11am to 1pm with great music and Christmas goodies…So if you’re not allergic to nuts – tune in!!

Randell will also join you Boxing Day – at MIDDAY (without a clipboard!) for something a bit different.

Broadcaster Training Day

The Southern Community Media Association conducted accredited Certificate III training in Sale at the Anglican Diocese Office with attendance of 21 students – 10 from Life FM and the rest from 3BBR in Drouin and one from Vision Radio (formerly Radio Print Handicapped).

Graeme Macartney from Shepparton and Rod Boyd from Melbourne conducted training sessions on “Present On Air” and “Conduct an Interview”.

There has already been substantial positive feedback from the training event, which, combined with the almost overwhelming expressions of interest from through out the SCMA membership, means that the association is keen to conduct similar training sessions as soon as possible at different locations within the membership area of the SCMA.

The SCMA currently has submissions before the CBF for more funding to run more of these accredited training sessions so these participants will hopefully be able to complete Cert II Broadcasting.

Tall Poppy Café provided morning and afternoon tea and lunch on a contra sponsorship basis.

Participants now have to submit four interviews and one air check by Feb09. We are working together to make sure everyone has access to recorders and the studio and interviews will hopefully be able to be used on air. Already 3 participants are gearing up for their own programs, Randell to present TRAA, Sarah will do a Veggie Tales / kids program and Liam Craig will be presenting “Get Out Of Jail Free” in the New Year.

Job Vacancies

It takes many people and much work behind the scenes to keep Life FM on air. We currently have three key positions vacant and we urgently need someone skilled to assist.

Life FM is primarily run on computers and thanks to Beth Harris we have efficient systems established which enable us to network all the PCs and work by remote when necessary. Beth was also our webmaster and our website has been a major part of our work and communication and thus a vital part of this ministry.

We now find ourselves in a position of needing someone else to take on these roles as we grow and continue to reach out across Gippsland.

Position #1: Hardware and Network Co-ordinator

* For Sale and/or Traralgon – approx 10 hrs per week as arranged with Station Manager *
Computers need to be maintained and when necessary replaced so we need someone who can demonstrate a high level of computer skills; be able to work with flexibility in a changing and pressured environment as part of a team; have the ability to develop and maintain administrative systems and procedures to support broadcasting activities; and be accomplished in resource management skills.

Position #2: Webmaster

Our website is in need of a “freshen up” . We need someone who is able not only to design an interactive website, but someone who has proven Website Management experience; strong web design skills which will include the ability to edit HTML and JavaScript skills; a thorough knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) techniques; a flexible attitude with proven experience of working in a small team; ability to develop and maintain administrative systems and procedures to support broadcasting activities; excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Position #3: Software Co-ordinator

* For Sale and or Traralgon – approx 10 hrs per week as arranged with Station Manager *
It’s also important that the many administration systems we are using are kept up-to-date. The person in this position will maintain and update software so that other staff can develop information and data files, databases and contact lists as required; keep all PC’s updated with latest software and anti-virus protection; work in consultation with Hardware Coordinator to maintain PC rotation in consultation with Station Manager, to ensure maximum effectiveness in all areas of operation.

While these are listed as three separate positions they are obviously not all full time so it is conceivable that one person could do all three jobs (as has happened in the past). We understand that people are very busy and may not have the luxury of being able to make themselves available for the amount of time we have projected. We are flexible!

If you are interested in any or all of these positions there is more detail here.

Please note that as these are designated positions, all applicants will be interviewed and given a probationary period to ascertain suitability for both parties. The above positions are all voluntary.

Birthday Appeal Results

We celebrated our 5th year on air on Wednesday 29th October with a birthday party and AGM – this was also the deadline for our Birthday Appeal.

It’s this time of year when donations and memberships really drop off – from November to around March is the “dry” time for many ministries. Everyone is thinking about Christmas and holidays and then before you know it – it’s Easter! Many visitors come to Gippsland over summer so it’s a great time for Life FM to spread the good news about Jesus!

This year we thought we’d try and plan ahead for the dry time and ask you to send Life FM a birthday gift. Up to 9pm on the 29th , we received a total of $11,877.90!!!

THANK YOU GIPPSLAND!

Our catch phrase is “a better Life for Gippsland” – it is the focus of all that we do to bring the message of the hope of Jesus into the hearts of those who listen to Life FM – YOU are an integral part in this listener supported ministry!

You can make a donation ANYTIME to help keep Life FM running.

Please make sure you put your name as the reference so we can send you a receipt.
